Indiana Governor-Elect Mitch Daniels hopes to begin cracking down on parents who owe child-support money when he takes office in January, his transition team says.
Daniels says Indiana — which ranks 43rd in the nation in collecting child support — can do a better job in ensuring that the money is paid. Indianapolis TV station RTV6′s Derrik Thomas reported Monday that Daniels would like to do the following:
- Hire private collection experts.
- Create a centralized database of parents who owe money.
- Make noncustodial parents post surety bonds.
- Pursue more federal money to aid in collection.
