But a source at the IRS tells CollectionIndustry.com that the agency is still accepting contact information from private collection agencies interested in consideration for the contracts to collect back taxes and that a request-for-proposal has not been issued. The IRS will accept contact information only and will notify the agencies when an RFP is available for comment. Interested agencies should send their contact information to *collection.inquiries@irs.gov. The * is very important in front of collection as the email will not be delivered without it.
The budget proposal from President Bush calls for a 5.25% increase in the IRS’s budget for 2003. This increase will allow the tax collection agency to increase staff by about 1,000 and will give the IRS an opportunity to outsource the collections of some $13 billion in back taxes.
