White Powder Substance Found in Package Sent to GC Services

Health officials believe that a powdery substance found in a package at a south side business Wednesday was chalk dust. The Duval County Health Department said that the powder tested negative for any toxins. The substance was found in a package at GC Services, a collection agency in the Koger Center off Beach Boulevard.

Authorities evacuated the business after employees became concerned about an envelope carrying white powder that had arrived in the mail earlier in the week.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue was called when several people complained of coughing and sneezing at GC Services. Rescue personnel responding called the hazardous materials team just after 1 p.m., and the building was evacuated.
