Chapter 13 filings constituted 36.4 percent of all consumer cases in February, down slightly from last month.

“February's bankruptcy spike -- the highest single month since the 2005 law changes -- forecasts the start of more to come for the balance of 2008,” said ABI Executive Director Samuel J. Gerdano.

The Alexandria, Va.-based ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. The ABI membership includes more than 11,700 attorneys, accountants, bankers, judges, professors, lenders, turnaround specialists and other bankruptcy professionals, providing forum for the exchange of ideas and information.
