What's this?

Pittsburgh - The Pittsburgh office of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A. (WWR) was recently involved in a food drive for food banks in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  Food banks are just one of the many charities that WWR supports each year.

From November 2008 - March 2009, the Pittsburgh office collected canned food for local food banks in Pittsburgh during the office's casual days, in lieu of a monetary donation.  This effort was spearheaded by Holly Thurman, an attorney in the Pittsburgh office, who was assisted by foreclosure paralegal Heidi Kelly.  Each week, the office collected approximately 50 cans of food, boxes of cereal and other non-perishable items.  The office's efforts were much appreciated by the food banks; together the Pittsburgh staff was able to specifically assist a local family in Pittsburgh.  The mother had been recently hospitalized and the father had been deported to Africa. The children of the family, ages 12, 10, and 7, were fending for themselves while their mother was hospitalized.  The food provided by the Pittsburgh office was a huge help to them during such a difficult time. The office also ran a 50/50 raffle during December 2008 and February 2009 and donated the proceeds to the family in order to assist them with some of their expenses.  The office's efforts were recently highlighted in an article in the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese Newsletter.

"At WWR, we strongly believe in giving back to the communities in which we live and often support worthwhile causes," said Jim Valecko, Managing Partner of WWR's satellite offices.  "We demonstrate this philosophy by our commitment to volunteerism and charitable giving by the firm and all of its employees.  The Partners of the firm set the example by their own commitment of time and money to these causes and encourages and rewards its employees for their contribution to making this philosophy a reality."
