IRS Debt Collection Contract could be Stalled by Protest

Two protests have been filed by companies over the IRS debt collection contract awards announced earlier this month. The protests, first reported by tax industry publication Tax Notes, could delay the beginning of the collection under the contracts for as much as 100 days.

Diversified Collection Services Inc. (DCS) and GC Services LLP (GCS) officially filed complaints against the contract awards this week and last week, respectively. The Government Accountability Office must now resolve the complaints.
