What's this?

Gila Corporation, d/b/a Municipal Services Bureau (MSB), has been honored by The Compassionate Friends as a recipient of the 2008 Compassionate Employer Award. The Compassionate Friends is the world’s largest self-help bereavement organization, providing support and friendship to families who have experienced the death of a child.

Nominated by one of their own employees, Gila Corporation received this recognition as a Compassionate Employer for going above and beyond normal policies and procedures in dealing with its employees in times of need. ”We treat our colleagues as we want to be treated ourselves,” said Patrick J. Swanick, Chief Executive Officer of Gila Corporation. “We can’t expect our employees to treat our clients with dignity and respect if we don’t model the same behaviors within our Company as an example to follow,” Swanick said.

“There is oftentimes a lack of understanding by employers about the realities of grief in the workplace. Gila Corporation is being recognized for providing the compassion and understanding that is so vital to the bereavement process,” said Patricia Loder, Executive Director of The Compassionate Friends.

This is the eighth year for this unique award and 96 employers across the nation have been recognized in 2008. In the state of Texas, eight companies were honored by The Compassionate Friends organization.

Some criteria for this recognition include allowing additional time off without loss of benefits, flexible work schedules and assignments, fostering an environment of mutual support among co-workers and providing additional assistance above and beyond what is customary.
