Encore Capital Deal May Lead to New Jobs in Minnesota

A collection business that came to St. Cloud, MN with the demise of the former Fingerhut is spinning off some work and workers in a deal expected to keep and create local jobs.

Jefferson Capital Systems LLC, a subsidiary of CompuCredit Corp., is selling a portfolio of credit card debt collection work to Encore Capital Group Inc., a San Diego accounts receivable manager.

About 120 of CompuCredit's 345 St. Cloud employees will be on the Encore payroll by early September, with pay and benefits similar to what they've had at Jefferson Capital.

Encore's chief financial officer, Paul Grinberg, said there is potential for job growth in St. Cloud.
