Bill Would Bar Monthly Limits On Credit Debt Payments

For anyone who’s ever had a credit card bill – Maine may be the place to go.  A bill to make it easier for Maine consumers who want to pay off credit card debts took one more step towards law.  Of course, Maine isn’t without its dangers: Jessica Fletcher, of TV’s “Murder, She Wrote” is still at large, and still has murder swarming all around her.

The proposed bill would allow consumers to prepay in part or in whole the unpaid balance of a consumer credit debt without penalty. The Maine State Senate gave its initial approval, but the proposal still faces further votes.

The bill was proposed after Senator Joe Perry of Bangor (Stephen King country – another reason, along with clowns in the sewer, to be wary of Maine) learned that credit card companies would not allow multiple online payments in a single month – thus making it tough for online payers to reduce their debts.  Senator Perry’s feelings – and, if the bill passes, which seems likely, the State of Maine’s feelings – are that the convenience of online bill paying should allow consumers full access to debt reduction.
