Axel Steuernagel Appointed Member of the Board of Directors at EOS Group with Responsibility for Eastern Europe

Hamburg, Germany – As of 1 August 2009, Dr Axel Steuernagel joined the Board of Directors at KG EOS Holding GmbH & Co and assumed responsibility for the Eastern Europe region. In the region, EOS is present in twelve countries and holds leading market positions. Mr Steuernagel is replacing Klaus Engberding, who was responsible for this business unit on a provisional basis from mid-2008 onwards. Mr Engberding will continue to be responsible for the Germany business unit.

Most recently, Mr Steuernagel headed the Quelle Group’s regional activities in Central and Eastern Europe, where he significantly improved its market position in the region in the fields of e-commerce and traditional mail order. Mr Steuernagel, 40, comments on the switch as follows, "I’m looking forward to supporting the EOS Group with my experience in the region and dealing with the upcoming challenges on markets which are badly affected by the financial crisis."

After studying business administration and gaining a doctorate, Axel Steuernagel began his career in 1997 at Bertelsmann AG. In the years that followed, he held a variety of management positions, including managing director of the e-commerce segment. In 2003, he switched to the management consultants McKinsey & Company, where he looked after projects in the retail and consumer goods areas in various Western and Eastern European countries, before joining the Quelle Group in 2006.
