As it turns out, Cobra Collection Agency’s recent alleged illegal run-in with a client isn’t the first time the Columbus, GA-based collection agency has been on the wrong side of the law.

Cobra’s former landlords, Buck Investments, say that Cobra and its owner, Janice Ledden, rented property from them and then left before the lease ran out and wrote several bad rent checks.
You can go ahead and add the staff at Dr. Emanuel Wilkes office, business owner Matthew Chan, or local property management company Kennon, Parker, Duncan and Key, to the list of people allegedly wronged by Ledden and her company.
Predominantly, when not paying rent, Cobra Collection’s modus operandi is to skim a bit off the top of what it collects to keep for itself. Of course, when this is part of the business contract, there is usually nothing wrong with this. However, Ledden kept more than the usual collections fee – which is what is cementing her reputation as a scam artist in the collections world.
In the spirit of “It doesn’t rain, but it pours”: Georgia TV station WTVM has also discovered that Ledden spent some time in prison for theft by taking, serving nearly two years.
Janice Ledden remains unavailable for comment. She has alleged that she was a victim of embezzlement and plans to pay all of the money back.
