I need to take a breather from the Phillies game. A bit tough to watch.
I don't personally have a problem with Def Leppard. More precisely, the 3 albums that preceeded "Hysteria." In fact, I enjoy "High and Dry" more than "Pyromania" to this day. Still had some of the rawness of "On through the Night" but it had their first ballad to usher in the ladies. To me, High and Dry is my personal favorite. "Pyromania" is far better than Hysteria. Opening track decent rocker and the singles which I am sure you know were far superior to Hysteria. "Hysteria" was just a bit too cookie cutter for me. Probably don't even want me to discuss Adrenalize which was even worse in that department. |

What ever happened to the greats?
Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons? Dion and the Belmonts? Chad and Jeremy? You missed one for your top ten. I know its a hits album, but it still deserves to be in there. Foreigner - Records Their songs still make you want to sing along while driving. ------------------------- "No dice, Chicago. I'm giving the orders and we're coming in. I guess the foot's on the other hand now, isn't it?" |

Foreigner Records featured a really good version live version of "Hot Blooded" which singlehandedly made me purchase it. However, the songs from Foreigner 4 that are on Records are abridged, specifically Juke Box Hero and Urgent. If you listen to those 2 on Foreigner 4, the are appx 20-30 seconds longer. The ending of Hero is cut short and the middle of Urgent is cut short.
Foreigner 4 and Head Games my 2 personal favorites albums by them. |

I'd say that would probably be a good idea ........unless...... ofcourse you'd enjoy being slowly churned through a meat grinder. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Tax Said......... Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons? Dion and the Belmonts? Chad and Jeremy? The Crystals I love Frankie Valli ........ Dion and the Belmonts sound familiar but the other two.........nevah heard of em...... LOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To Norton---- (And u can blame this one on GFG for telling me) but Foreigner's last concert sponser was AARP.... .........Sigh.......... makes me feel old...... loved those guys..... PS~ Styx and believe it or not Poison actually put on pretty good shows......... I HATED Poison until this summer.......(they opened for the leps along with cheap trick) ........... I have to say...... Bret gives the crowd one helluva show and he really puts his heart into his music....... Unlike Joe........ (Leps lead singer) Now that coming from a fan of 27 years should mean alot......... The rest of my guys in the leps tho..... still know how to RAWK it! ------------------------- Father.. Forgive .... Styx went out in disgraceful fashion.......Kilroy was Here? That was a piece of crap concept album. No wonder Tommy Shaw makes fun of Dennis DeYoung every chance he can. Styx touring again? Royalty checks from Paradise Theater and Pieces of Eight must of dried up. Pieces of Eight personal favorite.
Def Leppard as I alluded to had good raw energy early on (first 2 albums). Pyromania was enjoyable although you could sense the commercial direction underway. Stagefright was actually my favorite track. As far as Poison....... Posin' Motley Crue Too Fast for Love was the original 80's Glam Metal album. I actually didn't buy it until after Shout at the Devil was released. Bought Shout and the dude at the store told me it wasn't their first album. A week later, I bought Too Fast and liked that more. I don't care what other lame wannabe hairbands tried to declare like Ratt ,Posin', Dokken, etc. THEY ALL owe their livelihoods to 1981's Too Fast for Love. Motley Crue were the pioneers of that era and we can thank gay posers like Warrant and White Lion for destroying it. It took 15 years after that fallout for any of those bands to get attention and appreciation again with filling big live venues in recent years as Fleppie alludes to. I was predominately a Cars and Blondie fan until I heard The Crue. Also enjoyed the Bon Scott AC/DC and Judas Priest music too. AC/DC...that's a topic in itself. I was in junior high when Bon died. Loved Back in Black....until 1982 when it was already killed by parties and radiowaves. High Voltage through Highway to Hell blows all Brian Johnson albums out of the water! Razors Edge was only very good post Black album w/ Brian Johnson. For those about to rock.. was slowed down and lame despite it being #1 because every rock fan wanted to buy it when it was released because of Back in Black's success. Actually, Dirty Deeds was released in 81' before For those about to rock... I know the copyright was 76', but that album was never available here until shortly after Back in Black. |

In hindsight....I trust no one is going to cheat by googling. Fleppie's Pyromania got screwed over. Because it was released almost at the same time as Wacko Jacko's Thriller, it never made #1. There was however a metal band that topped Wacko Jacko for #1. It was the first metal album to reach #1. I assume someone can answer that without cheating before I return in 24 hours.

Oh Please Larry Gowan is a genious and a fireball of energy ......... EXCELLENT conert............ Poision............ Eh, don't knock em til ya see em....... Like I said I hated them before I saw them this summer...... and the energy and passion they gave was well worth my time........ Motley Crue - "Whatever" that's exactly what I think when I think of them......... Ratt...... RAWKED it til Juan Crocier left ......... now I wouldn't give em the time of day.......... I despised Blondie, the Cars and Judas Priest...... (so we are definitly on the oppposite ends of the music spectrum) AC / DC......... I do listen to and enjoy "NOW" but never before this year........... TX-- Metallica - SUCKS :0) and FD it was a tragedy when QR's lead singer passed away this past year........ I enjoyed them in my younger years.............. THe only bands that I can seem to tolerate "new bands" I should say are........ My Chemical Romance and Lauren Monroe ------------------------- Father.. Forgive .... Me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6784iq86G0 :0) |

Fleppie, I take it you weren't a new wave fan. I understand. The Cars and Blondie weren't for everyone.
HOWEVER, not sure where you get off saying Metallica sucks. My definition of Metallica is Kill em' All through Master of Puppets. That's true Metallica to me. Kill em' All was actually meant to put those GLAM Bands minus The Crue to shame. As Dave Mustaine said back in the day, GLAM stands for Gay Los Angeles Metal. I beg to differ w/ The Crue but your "Ratt Poison" fits the GLAM profile. Back to Metallica. And Justice for All (4th album) was the beginning of the end. They sold out with that Black album 110%. Then, they became Alternica as the 90's progressed. I never acknowledged their Load and Reload crap as a former fan and could care less what they do now. However, one has to admit their first 3 albums blew the doors off everything else going in the metal scene at the time. |

The only thing Metallica ever did for me was give me a headache...... I really didn't stick with a certain genre of music....... I loved (and still do) Michael and Janet Jackson..... LL Cool J...... Alabama, New Edition , Whitney Houston, Nick Kershaw, Silverwind, Phil Driscoll, ............. Seriously bands that go across the board..........
I don't know what it is but there are bands where the "sound" / "tone" actually angers me........ The Beatles are one of those bands......... (although) I do LOVE John Lennon's "Imagine" the rest......... just well...... I can't tolerate it......... Glam? (Maybe) but I think I go all over the board...... like I said it's just a certain tone/ sound that gets me going......... ------------------------- Father.. Forgive .... I love most of the bands mentioned here - grew up listening to them, ditching school to wait in line to get concert tix etc. Now I get my "Spandex Fix at 6" weekdays on one of our local stations. On Sunday nights they run Dee Snider's House of Hair. My kids (3 & 4 years old) LOVE it too!

WTF???
So let me get this straight . . . Fleppie likes Whitney Houston but hates Metallica . . . sounds like someone has overdosed on the fruit baskets if you ask me. ------------------------- I'm all for consumer's rights, but you simply can't fix stupid. - Some Guy (5/4/09) Actually, every one of my posts on this board have been uncalled for. - Spy Boy (8/2/07) |

Ur darn skippy...........
Whitney is upbeat, melodic and has one of the most pure voices I've ever heard from a female vocalist......... Metallica is as depressing as POO! (Seriously) I can NOT listen to them without walking away feeling "down" It's not only the melody it's the lyrics for me............. Compare it......... Whitney - Step by Step U walk away feeling inspired................. Now this...... Gawd Find me some Xanax ------------------------- Father.. Forgive .... Twisted Sister is a guilty pleasure I must admit. I like Under the Blade, Can't Stop R & R and Stay Hungry albums. I hated most of those Gay Los Angeles Metal bands but TS was East Coast rockers who unfortunately got put into that group of bands.Probably because of that gay version of "leader of the pack" that killed their credibility as "rockers."
TX Debt, I'll stand up for the first 3 Metallica albums as groundbreakers in metal till the end. Whitney Houston, while you're at it Fleppie, why don't you copy and paste Wham youtube's and mail me some "Ratt Poison." |

Wow---this topic brought me back----interesting opinions!
Wham?!?! Perfect example of "be my butt buddy and I'll make you famous"! fdcpa101--I would suggest the Tubes "What do you want from LIVE" as opposed to any studio recording.....just me.....but a show where you had to be 18 to enter....translates to a great live album~! LOVE the opinion of Montrose! I remember learning "Space Station #5" when I was learning to play bass---when I was but a wee tot.....-GREAT album....but putting Van Halen 's first album in the "overated" category......I dunno....and for the record--I knew the answer to your trivia question---just haven't been on much due to my work hours..(btw--THANKS T!! Fleppie.....you know I'm nuts about ya.....BUT.......IMHO, after "On through the night" the leps just weren't the leps.....sorry! And.......for the record--Love the Cars...great catchy songs....As for Whitney...? Wellllllll....in the day i agree---great voice...but I----a man----would say as far as sweet voices, Karen Carpenter was amazing!...Guess I'm in line for an ass-kicking now! Lol!! Loved Quit Riot---felt sick when Kevin passed--- But.....Scorpions? Lovedrive from 79, then Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting.......ALL great albums!! yet no mention........ TX.......i would have to side with Flep on Metallica....just nothing there...and not REALLY 80's.... |
