In a continued effort to encourage employees, and Americans as a whole, to live healthier lives and reduce unnecessary medical costs due to physical inactivity, North American Credit Services (NACS) and Medical Services, Inc. celebrated ‘WALK-tober’ on October 23rd, along with a campus-wide ‘Go PINK’ in support of increased awareness of breast cancer and regular wellness checks, at its Chattanooga, Tennessee head-quarters.

“Our company feels passionately about the connection between one’s daily decisions and the direct costs of healthcare,” states Dallas S. Bunton, Sr. CEO of NACS and Medical Services, Inc. “Employee wellness partnerships such as our WALK-tober kick-off this month, creates an opportunity in workplaces to engage in increased physical activity while at work and after-hours in improving one’s personal health and well-being.”

According to a 2012 report from the CDC, about half of all adults in the United States –117 million people, had one or more chronic health conditions. Additionally, one of four adults had two or more chronic health conditions. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration (HRSA) estimates the cost to treat illness and chronic disease caused by inactive lifestyles is $1, 000 annually for every American family. And the U.S. Surgeon General reports that two out of three Americans are not getting enough daily physical activity to maintain a basic level of fitness. “Simply adding 20 to 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least four to five times a week can help people lose weight, lower their cholesterol and strengthen their hearts,” shares Joel Henderson, NACS Public Affairs Vice President.
