Stellar Recovery, Inc. CEO Garrett Schanck has been recognized as a 2014 Ultimate CEO by the Jacksonville Business Journal. Garrett has been working in the debt management and recovery industry for most of his life, starting as a collector at 15.

“I told myself I could quit it if I didn’t like it, but I fell in love with it,” Schanck said.

Schanck’s passion for the industry has allowed him to grow with the company, starting as a summer intern while in college and working to expand Stellar when he was offered a management position at the company’s Montana branch.

In part because of his growth with the company, Schanck promotes entirely from within. All employees, regardless of experience, start at the entry level.

“I tell everyone that their interview for management starts the second they walk through the door,” Schanck said. “It’s how you walk, how you talk, how you help others and act as a team player.”

Schanck also seeks to make the workplace comfortable and doesn’t make employees work late nights or weekends, opting instead to make the most of Stellar’s Montana location.

What helps the most, however, is Schanck’s experience with the industry, from working on the call center floor to sitting in the corner office.

“Our agents and managers know I’ve paid my dues. They know I’m not just here with my feet on my desk,” Schanck said. “I get down in the trenches with them. I try to lead by example.”
