A debt collector for a payday loan shop in Florida was arrested recently after he showed up to a consumer’s place of work dressed as a sheriff’s deputy and demanded payment claiming he had a warrant.

A Florida resident said that a collector at a Cash Plus location near Naples, Fla. showed up to his place of work demanding $180. When the consumer asked for proper identification, the collector showed him his gun.

The local NBC news station has film:

Cash Plus, for their part, has fired the collector and disavowed his actions. “He’s not supposed to be doing that,” the store’s manager told the station.

It’s also important to re-note that this was a collector directly employed by the original creditor, not a third party debt collection agency (for FDCPA purposes).
