Since 1981, Barron & Newburger has been building its track record of representation of commercial clients, creditors and collection industry members in litigation, regulatory and compliance affairs, business transactions and reorganizations from its headquarters in the state capital of Texas—Austin—adding a Houston office in 2011. Today, with offices in five cities around the country, Barron & Newburger has cultivated a depth and breadth of expertise that goes beyond central Texas, with the firm’s attorneys deeply attuned to regional and nationwide needs.

Newburger, who joined the firm in 1983, is known nationally for his expertise in consumer and commercial law, and has helped build the firm’s collective reputation representing collection agencies, law firms, debt purchasers and other participants in the financial services industry, including compliance and collections technique training, policy and procedure development, regulatory representation, and litigation defense.

Barron has decades of experience in bankruptcy and insolvency, FDCPA law, commercial litigation and small business advisory work. She has worked with clients in effecting out of court workouts and has represented debtors, creditors, trustees and creditors’ committees in bankruptcy proceedings throughout Texas. She has particularly represented numerous restaurants in restructuring their affairs both inside and out of bankruptcy proceedings.

New Perspectives

  • Thomas Good, formerly the General Counsel of SquareTwo Financial Corporation and Asset Acceptance Corporation has joined Barron & Newburger as managing attorney for the firm and has opened the firm’s Colorado office. He has been in the consumer and commercial finance industries for more than 30 years and has served as general counsel for debt-buying SEC registrants for the last decade. Mr. Good received his B.B.A and J.D. from the University of Michigan.
  • Also located in Colorado is David Silverman, who brings thirty years of prominent business and legal experience to the firm’s financial services practice. Prior to joining Barron & Newburger as of-counsel, Mr. Silverman was most recently the Co-Owner and managing member of Silverman/Borenstein. Mr. Silverman practices in the areas of Creditor’s Rights and Related Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy, Strategic Planning, Business Advice and Counsel, Negotiation and Mediation.
  • Joining Barron & Newburger as of-counsel and managing attorney of its New York office is Arthur Sanders. He has developed a recognized expertise in the defense of collection agencies and law firms engaged in the practice of debt collection. Mr. Sanders combines compliance insights with strong litigation skills. He obtained his B.S. in economics from Queens College and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
  • Also joining Barron & Newburger in an of-counsel capacity to manage its California office is Timothy Johnson. He has been a trial lawyer for over 30 years and has substantial trial experience in state and federal courts in the area of consumer litigation, insurance litigation, product liability and professional liability. Mr. Johnson graduated from the California State College Los Angeles and received his J.D. from Loyola Law School. He has also served as a volunteer judge for the Orange County.
